The Problem
A Government client faced significant challenges in ensuring effective data governance and enabling informed decision-making across its operations.
There is limited visibility into the storage locations and information flow of sensitive data across various systems, leading to concerns about data security, proper classification, and unauthorised access.
Their application developers and data users struggle to identify the correct data sources for critical business processes, such as vendor banking details and unpaid invoice amounts. Additionally, the lack of a comprehensive data catalogue with quality ratings hinders the analytics team’s ability to conduct meaningful analysis for efficiency and cost improvements.
To address these issues, exposé implemented a solution that provides clear visibility, supports accurate data classification and authorisation, and enhances the overall analytics capability by ensuring data is discoverable, comprehensible, and trusted.
The Solution
Exposé was engaged to support the implementation of Microsoft Purview, aimed at providing the ability for users to find data assets, understand what they are looking at, and making informed decisions about its use, all aligned with their Enterprise Data Strategy.
Exposé assisted in the following:
- Crafting the appropriate procedural framework that custodians will use as guardrails when cataloging their priority data assets.
- Provision, configure and secure the Purview technology, establishing connections to their initial Finance and Human Resources data assets.
- Working alongside them in the cataloguing regime according to the guardrails we had developed in collaboration with our Government client.
- This engagement also contributed to the start of a robust and pragmatic data governance framework that will support the ongoing effective data operations – with an initial focus being data asset security, discoverability, comprehensibility, trust, and custodianship.
Business Benefit
